Heurtley and Chao Associates is a partnership formed in 1996 by Richard Heurtley (web page) (e-mail) and Larry Chao (e-mail) to develop and license medical imaging technology. The partnership's portfolio includes:

An image recording system that records 512x512 256 level gray scale images direct to disk at 60 frames per second using commodity computer parts.
A general purpose DICOM medical image format library that can read and write the XA, US, and NM modalities.
Highly optimized and very fast image 1x3 and 3x3 convolution, and translation, rotation, and scaling functions.
An extremely fast monochrome JPEG decoding algorithm that has been observed to decode faster than 30 frames per second. The decoding rate depends on the speed of the computer, the compression ratio of the image, and the location of the image on the hard disk or CD-ROM.
